Markets
There have probably been markets in Louth since the 9th century, certainly by 1086 and various charters for markets and fairs were granted through the mediaeval period.
The future of Louth as a prosperous town is linked strongly to the prosperity of its weekly markets. A thriving market takes place at the Cornmarket three times a week, every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
The special annual events - The St. James Summer Fayre and the Victorian Family Fayre and the Christmas Market, give small business people the ideal opportunity to meet with their potential customers in a more specialised setting. Our weekly markets are often the first stepping stone on their road to success. Helping to keep our weekly markets buoyant gives them a more assured future, which in turn will help secure Louth Town Centre’s future as a place for shopping excellence.
Farmers markets are held every second Friday and every fourth Wednesday of the month. Here customers can buy products from local farmers, producers and craftsmen, which have been produced, grown, raised, baked or caught locally, normally within 30 miles of the market.
