Dress to win at the Victorian Fayre!

The Victorian Family Fayre, held in the town centre from 10am to 4pm, is the second hosted by the Louth Town Partnership. This year there are 65 local food and arts and craft stalls and all-day live entertainment, while many of Louth’s shops normally closed on a Sunday are opening especially for the event.

The organisers of this year’s Victorian Family Fayre are urging the Louth community to make a real show of dressing up in period costume on Sunday October 23.

“Now’s the time to start thinking about what you can wear,” says Patrick Neville, the Louth Town Partnership’s events leader for the Fayre.

“It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive, just imaginative and reasonably authentic. There are plenty of ideas on the Net while a visit to the library could also help. It might also be worth browsing around Louth’s charity shops for a hat or scarf.

“Our aim is to encourage as many people as possible to join in the fun and make the Fayre as colourful as possible. We’ll be awarding prizes for the best adult and best children’s costume,” he said, adding that a prize will also be given for the best stall.

This year those entering the costume competition are asked to register with the organisers at the Information Point located in the Market Place. Deadline for registration is 1pm. Judging will take place at 2.30pm and prize-winners announced at 3pm.

Meantime, as final preparations are being made for the event, the organisers are seeking volunteers to help with various activities, especially the popular Tombola and Treasure Hunt stalls.

“We welcome anyone who can spare an hour or two to relieve the Partnership volunteers who man these stalls,” Patrick said. “If you can help, or if you need any information about the Fayre, please contact our Town Manager, Ali Hall, on 07917628149.”
